Mickey spent his career working for Holiday Inn, where he rose to the executive level, before changing paths to serve the City of Austin, from which he ultimately retired. Always an active person, he continued to work as a self-contractor even after retirement.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sharing stories about his many adventures, riding his Harley, and fishing. But above all, Mickey loved MUSIC. Whether attending live shows or performing on stage, music was his true passion. He will be remembered for his many skills, his witty remarks, the silly nicknames he gave to everyone, his infectious laughter, and—most of all—the love he had for those near and dear to his heart. Mickey embodied a spirit of joy that touched the lives of everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benito Gonzales, and mother, Cecilia Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Riojas; his son, Steven Ray Herrera; his stepsons, Adrian Capuchino and Ryan Capuchino; and his siblings, Benny Gonzales, Lucy Ceballos, Julie Gonzales, and Charlie Gonzales. He also leaves behind three grandsons, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to thank The Christopher House for the care and compassion they showed Mickey in his final days. We would also like to thank the entire care team at Austin Palliative Care and Texas Oncology for the support and care they provided to Mickey throughout his care.
A Memorial to honor Mickey’s life will take place on a future date. Details will be provided as soon as that is available.
