Our beloved mother, Molly M. Mercado, age 90, passed away August 26, 2014, from an illness she valiantly fought until her last breath. She was cared for around the clock with the love and devotion of her children and grandchildren. Despite her age, our mother was a strong-willed, independent woman who was able to care for herself until the very end. She will always be lovingly remembered by her children who witnessed her hard work, dedication to her family and mostly for all the sacrifices she made in raising her children alone as a single parent. Being the oldest of eight, she also unselfishly took on the role of helping her parents raise her younger siblings, and therefore, did not have the opportunity to a formal education. However, despite that, her determination to raise her children led her to take on various domestic jobs, until she found her niche working in the meat market department of HEB Grocery store where she happily retired.
Our mother was a loving and caring person and was always putting others before herself. She touched many lives with her presence and her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. Our mother loved cooking for her family and sharing special moments with us doing things she loved to do. She was especially delighted to have witnessed the success of all her children and grandchildren.
Our mother was born in Kyle, Texas on January 12, 1924 to Hipolita and Eusebio Mendez. Molly is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tomas Guerrero, her sister Frances Laguna and her brothers Paul, Martin & Joe Mendez. She survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Guerrero, daughter and son-in-law, Mollie and Lute Bustos of Roseville, California, daughter, Janie Nowak, son and daughter-in-law, John and Maria Mercado, and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ernesto Chavarria Jr., her grandchildren, Tom Guerrero and wife, Ami, Kristy Kottke and husband David, Carey Alexander and husband Eric, Lute Bustos III and wife, Lois, Ernest Chavarria III, Ashley and Crystal Mercado and great grandchildren, Jack and Joey Guerrero, Josh Stern, Samantha Kottke, Lauren and Ricky Alexander of Roseville, California and Lute Bustos IV, and sister Mary Ramirez, sister Annie Alvarado and brother-in-law Joe Alvarado of Austin, Texas, sister Julie Valladares and brother-in-law Guillermo Valladares of Fort Worth, Texas.
