Nancy L. Friday

Nancy passed away in the early hours of October 31, 2013. Nancy had been afflicted with Alzheimer’s for several years. Her parents, Bertha Jo Kurtzmann and David Collins, and father, John Burton Young, have preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Curtis Friday of Austin, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Torn of Cedar Park, Texas; sons, Richard Friday of Las Vegas, Nevada and Michael Friday of Irvine, California; brothers, Jerry Young and David Wayne Collins, both of Houston, Texas; half-sisters, Sandra Moxley and Dorothy Zalobny; half-brothers, John Burton Young Jr. and Thomas Wesley Young. She also leaves five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with other loving relatives and many dear friends.

Born April 20, 1935 in Austin, Nancy graduated from Austin High School and married her sweetheart, Curtis, over 60 years ago. She worked for the Austin National Bank and later started a career with the State of Texas Railroad Commission, from which she retired. Nancy was very talented artistically and spent hours every week at her hobby of flower arranging and graphic design. “Granma”, as she was called by her grandkids, would literally travel across the globe to be present for their births accompanied by her mother, the late Bertha Collins.

Friends may pay their respects on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov 5, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Isle at Cedar Ridge Assisted Living Complex, 2200 S. Lakeline Blvd, in the Austin/ Cedar Park area (512) 219-0200.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in Nancy’s memory.
