

Neal was born to Edward and Doris E. Simms, October 22, 1939 in St. John Colony, TX and he departed this life December 25, 2013 in Austin, TX. His mother, father and two sons, Gregory Simms and Bobby Harrell, Sr. preceded him in death.
Survivors left to cherish Neal’s memories include his wife, Lillian Shead-Simms; three daughters, Doris Burton (Larry, Sr.), Shirley Temesgen, Sheila Shepard; one son, Donald R. Harrell, Sr. (Margie); daughter-law, Betty; four brothers, Melvin (Vera), Charles, Louis (Georgia), Quinton (Theresa); five sisters, Jo Shields, Bobbie Wydermyer (Loyal), Jennifer Perkins, Tiny Marie Woodard (Nathaniel), and Charlene Simms; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two uncles, Milton Gooden and Alfred Henderson, one aunt, Rubye Henderson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Neal (Watermelon) Simms lived well and long with unshakeable resilience, gratitude and joy. If you were his friend or family member, please know he loved you dearly. Neal was known for his sense of humor and gigantic heart.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas - (512) 251-4118. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, at 1:00pm, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
