Nola Bettcher Reay was born on July 16, 1962 to Marynelle Davis and William “Bill” Harvey Bettcher III in Austin, Texas. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Lanier High School in 1980. After high school, she received her Bachelors from Southwest Texas State University (now named Texas State University). Following graduation, she worked as an accountant for the family security company until having her first child. Nola spent the next 25 years raising Michelle and Matthew, her greatest joys in life. Most recently, Nola worked as an accountant for Texas Health and Human Resources.
To know Nola was to love Nola. She loved making those around her smile and laugh and never met a stranger. Nola was always willing to lend a listening ear and to help provide support and guidance when she could. Some of her greatest memories shared were those spent with family and friends talking and laughing. Nola was deeply proud of her children and devoted herself to being the best mother she could be. She taught Matthew and Michelle the value of strength, independence, mental wellness, and joy. As they remember her, Matthew and Michelle carry forward the lessons she embodied—take the mental health day, don’t be afraid to be a little silly, and always strive to do the right thing.
Nola went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. She loved the Lord and the family feels peace in knowing she is in his arms. Nola is preceded in death by her father, Bill Bettcher, and step fathers, Wayne Stamper and Robert Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Michelle Reay (T.J. Planas), son Thomas Matthew Reay (Haruka Reay), mother Marynelle Davis, step-mothers Dee Bettcher and Doris Taylor, sisters Lois Bettcher Kubo (Jody Kubo) and Catherine Court (Gregory Court), brother Dan DuPree, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who she adored and loved.
The family will be celebrating the life and legacy of Nola Reay at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, located at 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX, 78660, United States. The service is scheduled for November 25, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that those wishing to honor Nola consider planting a tree or perennial in their own garden, or sharing a living plant in her memory.
