Pansy "Marie" Giles of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on January 7, 1937, in Rison, Arkansas, where she spent her early childhood. At the age of twelve, her family moved to Austin, Texas, which became her beloved lifelong home.
Marie graduated from Austin High School in 1955, marking the start of a life filled with dedication and hard work. Marie built a long and fulfilling career, working at Capitol Cattle Company, the State of Texas Austin State School, and Travis State School. Throughout her years of service, she was admired for her reliability, work ethic, and the pride she brought to every role.
Beyond her professional life, Marie found joy in the simple pleasures that made her world bright. She was an avid gardener, nurturing flowers and plants with the same gentle care she offered to those around her. She loved visiting with friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the kind of conversations that linger in the heart long after they end. Known for her playful sense of humor, she enjoyed joking around, having fun, and never missed a chance to go country dancing—one of her greatest delights.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Leona Marie Henderson Culp and Oscar Stephen Anderson, as well as her stepfather, Amos Charles Culp. Their memory and love remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Diana Giles Norman, and her husband Jerry, and her devoted son, David Giles, Jr., and his wife Beth. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Amy McCleary and husband Eric, Rachel Wright and husband Travis, Ryan Giles and wife Stephanie, and Mallory Hitchcock and husband Josh. Marie was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Hannah McCleary, Taylor McCleary, Bailey Wright, Jake Wright, Mason Wright, Joshua Hitchcock, Audrey Hitchcock, Brenna Hitchcock, Nellie Giles, and Skyy Giles. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Culp, and her nephew, John Culp, both of whom brought her great pride and joy.
Marie’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her kindness and the gentle way she connected with those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the countless lives she touched.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on—in the stories shared, the gardens grown, the dances remembered, and the love she gave so freely.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the same warmth she brought into the world.
