Richard was born on April 23, 1950, in Austin, Texas, to Arthur and Margaret Carter. He grew up in this vibrant city, where he developed a love for building and working with his hands. After graduating from John H. Reagan High School in 1968, he embarked on a lifelong journey as a skilled carpenter and builder.
Richard was not just a craftsman; he was also an adventurer at heart. He cherished time spent fishing, boating, and water skiing. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to his family and his beloved dogs, whom he treated like family. Richard was a true dog dad, taking them to parks and preparing homemade meals for them.
Known for his incredible sense of humor, Richard had a knack for bringing laughter to even the toughest of times. He was a true prankster, and his playful spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard leaves behind his devoted wife, Cheryl Marie Carter; daughter Courtney Carter. He is also survived by his cherished stepsons: Steven (and Chris), Shane (and Kirstin), Robert (Bobby) (and Samantha), and John (JR) (and Kayla). Additionally, he is remembered by his brother Art (and Joyce), his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, Rebecca (Becca) Clark, many nieces, and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sisters, Peggy Sue Vivian, Carolyn Jo Osbourne, Gloria Jean Simpson, and grandson Ash. His legacy of love, humor, and kindness will continue to shine through his family and friends.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the healthcare workers, family, and friends who supported Richard and our family during this difficult time. Your love and compassion have meant the world to us.
