Richard Lane Harrison departed this life on Sunday, August 13, 2023 in Austin, Texas.
Richard was born on February 3, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. He was the eldest son of Richard Harrison and Ruth Nobles and the eldest sibling to six brothers and sisters. From a young age, he was introduced to and followed Christ and grew up in Abilene, Texas. Richard excelled in school, receiving his high school diploma from Cooper High School in Abilene ISD and accepted a scholarship in Engineering to the University of Texas at Austin. Upon moving to Austin, he met Jackie Shaw and they married on March 3, 1979. Over the next five years, they welcomed two daughters, Brandi and Britney. Richard was employed by United Parcel Service for 30 years, serving as a leader to his peers and held the position of Union Steward. After working tirelessly for those years, he retired in May 2010 and went back to complete his undergraduate degree in Mathematics at UT-Austin. He fulfilled his dream of becoming a high school math teacher and taught students at LBJ High School for 8 years. He earned the Teacher of Promise award in his first year.
Richard loved his family, playing dominoes, and spending time with his only grandchild, Brayden Lane. They shared a love of music, specifically Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire, and even put on neighborhood concerts. Brayden was the light of his life and affectionately called him RedBear. He had countless laughs and milestones with his wife, shared a love for scary movies with his daughters, and tutored many relatives and friends in math. He loved to read and watch football. His gentle and giving nature was infectious and loved by all that knew him.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory and legacy: his wife of 44 years, Jackie; daughters Brandi Harrison Trotter (Reggie) and Britney Harrison (Cliff); grandson, Brayden; sisters, Pamela, Sharon, and Debra; brother, Melvin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
