

Richard Charles Kurtz, age 84, passed away at his home at 1443 Coronado Hills Dr, #504, St George’s Court, Austin, Texas on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 with his loving wife, Dorothy, by his side. He suffered many years with Parkinson’s Disease and congestive heart failure, with never a complaint.
Richard was born in Waterloo, Iowa on May 25, 1929, to Madeline and Henry Kurtz. He was pre-deceased by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Woore; and Brothers: James, Delbert, Dave and Harold, all of Iowa. He is survived by, in addition to his loving wife, best friend and lover, Dorothy; one Sister, Jan Wilson of Waverly, Iowa and Brothers: Paul (Shirley) of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Arnie (Helen) of Ashland, Missouri. He is also survived by Connie (Arnold) Brackenridge of Spring, Texas, Sandra Tarpey of The Woodlands, Texas and Deb (Kevin) Rosauer of Rowley, Iowa and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, Council #8141; both in Austin, Texas and co-founder of the “Church Food Pantry” on Loyola Lane where he spent time serving several thousand families. It was his passion to help and serve the community. He spent many years as an Apartment Maintenance Man in Austin, Texas and Denver & Ft Collins, Colorado. He was co-owner of the Gayla Ballroom in Independence, Iowa and the Big “K” Motel in Austin, Minnesota. He was a press maintenance repair man at Chamberlain’s Manufacturing in Waterloo, Iowa for many years and previous to that he assisted on the family farm outside of Waterloo, Iowa.
Visitation will be held in the Memorial Chapel at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, 14501 North Interstate 35, in Pflugerville, Texas on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. A lunch will held at noon, following the burial, at St George’s Court, 1443 Coronado Hills Dr, Austin, Texas. All are welcome to attend the lunch.
