Bob was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on July 6, 1933. After several years in the Army at the end of the Korean war, he returned to school at UNM where he met and married Marilyn Bullock. They moved to Denver where he completed his BA degree at the University of Denver. He and Lynn raised 5 children together as his career developed in manufacturing, engineering and sales in the tire industry, eventually becoming national sales director for Armstrong Tires.
After a few years of self-employment Bob retired in Austin, TX where some of his children and grandchildren live.
Bob’s gregarious personality allowed him to be successful in sales and ensured that he never met a stranger. He was failing in many ways at the end, but still managed to bring smiles to those around him.
Bob loved to be socializing in any venue, but especially with his friends and family and especially if there was food involved. A meal wouldn’t be complete if his voice didn’t ring out with “What’s for dessert?” Even when he couldn’t participate as much anymore, he appreciated being able to watch his family interact with each other.
Bob’s size of six foot seven and 260 pounds made sure he was never overlooked and was the cause of much merriment and family stories of him not fitting well anywhere, getting stuck in, or breaking normal sized furniture, etc. He good naturedly took it all in stride, even when he became the tourist attraction in places like China where the locals barely came up to his waist and constantly approached him to take a picture with him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Agnes Cheshire, his brothers Leonard Ray Cheshire and John (Jack) Cheshire, twin sister Elizabeth (Betty) Miller, and wife of 50 years, Marilyn Rose Bullock, and wife of 8 years Betty Jo Dipaola.
Bob is survived by his children Joscelyn Shempert (Craig), Austin, TX, Laurie Klimowicz (Daniel) Morongo Valley, CA, Jeanette Miller (William), Cincinnati, OH, Brian Cheshire, Austin, TX, Neil Cheshire (Sharon), Pflugerville, TX, and grandchildren, Matthew Shempert, Eric Shempert, Melanie Shempert, Nicholas Klimowicz, Lauren Klimowicz and Zachary Miller.
