Bob was born May 17, 1928, to Paul and Edith Kriegel. He was born in Houston, Texas, but lived almost his entire life in Austin. He was married to Bobbie Laverne Richard for 65 years before her death in December 2016. At age 17 he joined the U.S. Navy and served on board the repair ship, USS Stentor. Bob was a drummer in the University of Texas marching band and graduated with a civil engineering degree in 1950. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 33 years – most of that time in the materials and testing division at the Camp Hubbard location in Austin.
Bob had been an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church for 50 years where he taught Sunday School for the first 48 years. For the last 7 ½ years, he and his wife, Bobbie, were members of Austin Baptist Church. Bob’s faith was solidly placed in Jesus Christ. Until his last morning, Bob spent each morning reading the Old Testament, New Testament and a Psalm. Then he prayed for family and friends as well as others where he lived. He finished strong in his faith.
Bob and his wife, Bobbie, frequented restaurants in their neighborhood and over the years developed genuine relationships with staff, who considered Bob and Bobbie more like family than customers.
Bob is survived by son Keith and wife Gwen Kriegel, granddaughter Amanda; son Kirk and wife Laurie Kriegel; granddaughter Kari and husband Chris Allman, great-granddaughter Lane; grandson Kyle and wife Jenni Kriegel, great-grandson Kade and great-granddaughter Hannah; and sister-in-law Sharon Richard. He is preceded in death by his wife Bobbie, his parents, brother Bill Kriegel, and brother-in-law Don Richard.
Services for Bob will be at Austin Baptist Church, 7016 Ribelin Ranch Road Dr., Austin, Texas 78750, on Monday, October 16, 2017, at 11:00 am.
