Ronald Ray Hughes was a decorated Vietnam Army War Veteran from May 1969 to March 1971 where he received the Purple Heart, two Bronze stars, the Medal for Heroism and the Army Commendation Metal. Ron worked as the Property Manager for the Texas House of Representatives, retiring in 2009. Ron passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 19, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Ron was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who lived a life of integrity, strength and generosity.
Born November 30th, 1947, in Dothan, Alabama. He is survived by his beloved spouse Mona Hughes, his daughter Emily Rodeman, son Donovan Hughes, daughter Dawn Woodall, eight grandkids and nine great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Sie and Emma Hughes along with six brothers and one sister.
Ron enjoyed spending weekends with his family at the lake fishing, barbequing and telling stories. He was an avid football fan and was vibrant in rooting for his favorite teams. Ron looked forward to meeting up with his friends for their weekly bowling league. Ron instilled the importance of hard work, honesty, humility and family values in his children. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
A visitation, service and graveside military burial will be held at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Austin's Christopher House.
