Rosalie Christine (Ryden) Meiske

Rosalie Christine Ryden Meiske, 92, met her Savior face to face on Monday, June 21, 2021. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Rosalie was born in Austin, Texas, to Royal Ryden and Rosa Youngbloom Ryden. She graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin.

Rosalie married the love of her life, Herb Meiske, in May 1956. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage, and were an example of commitment and dedication through both good and challenging times.

Rosalie had a varied career, working as a secretary for Southern Pacific Railroad and Weiser Engineering while in Houston, then as a tax examiner for the IRS in Austin, and finally as a buyer for Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. Her favorite role, however, was being Grandma to her two grandsons, Brandon and Ryan.

After retirement, Rosalie and Herb loved to travel with friends. Alaska, Spain, Canada and New England hold special memories for them. Rosalie volunteered for 10 years at Georgetown Hospital, and served on the Auxiliary Board. She then volunteered at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center for over 10 years, as well as helping in the library at JB Little Elementary in Arlington. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Arlington.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her parents and two brothers, Leon and Carroll Ryden. She is survived by her daughter Jan and husband Dennis Long, grandson Brandon and wife Jessica Long, grandson Ryan Long, two special sisters-in-law, Patricia Meiske and Dorothy Ryden, one niece and four nephews.

Rosalie’s funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville. Following the service, there will be an escorted procession to Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery (13700 North Interstate 35.)
