Roy was born on August 19, 1950 in Victoria, Texas to the late Roy T. and Fannie E. Van Zandt. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was employed for over 47 years with Olen Cothrons of Cothrons Safe & Lock. He impression cut, copied and unlocked car doors. Roy's family would like you to know that he has impressioned his last key and it was made to open the gates of Heaven. Roy was a Master Mason in the Hill City Lodge No. 456 as well as a member of the Ben Hur Shriners. He was proud to wear many hats over the years; serving as Cub Scout Leader, Camp Boss at the family reunions and will be forever remembered for his sweet smile and his favorite Stetson. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Roy married Linda Darlene McDonald on January 25, 1974 in Austin, Texas.
In addition to his wife of 44 years he is survived by three daughters, Heather O'Neal Barrow of Blue, Texas, Rebecca Darlene Van Zandt of Round Rock, Texas and Crystal Lynn Van Zandt of Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Hanni Van Zandt (Wrencher) of Pflugerville, Texas; eight perfect grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Solis of San Antonio, Texas and Ella Mayfield of Barstow, California; sister-in-law, Shirley VanZandt of Saginaw, Texas as well as many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of cousins and a host of many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his beloved son, Roy Emil Van Zandt, Jr. two brothers George T. Van Zandt and James R. Van Zandt, Sr. as well as several other important family members.
Roy's children would like to thank you on behalf of his wife for being such good friends and loving her Honey. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life immediately following at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with a family friend, Stephen Stripling, serving as the celebrant. Interment will be at Austin Memorial Park with receptions services to follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home.
