

Rueben was born a twin with Roger Gamez on September 25, 1956 in Buda, TX, to Rudolph and Hermenegilda Gamez and was one of six children.
After graduating from San Marcos High in 1975, Rueben joined the Army in 1977 and served active duty for 3 years as a Medical Specialist and served 10 years in the Army Reserves in the Intelligence Field. Under rank SP4 for the Department of the Army Headquarters, DDEAMC Fort Gordon, GA, he was awarded The Army Commendation Medal for demonstrating outstanding characteristics of leadership, sound judgement and dedication to duty. Rueben was also awarded Diplomas for AMEDD Noncommissioned Officer Basic (NCOES), Psychiatric Specialist, and Basic Medical Specialist and was a rifle sharpshooter and expert grenade. After his military service, he worked as Lead Maintenance Technician for Motorola for 16 years and finished the Electronics field at Cypress Semiconductors and retired from the State of Texas after 12 years of service.
He met the love of his life, Olivia Ojeda, at a dance in New Braunfels and were married on July 4, 1981. They shared forty-two years of wedded bliss and many more dances together. They were blessed with three children, Blanca, Rueben Jr., and Richard.
The only greater love of Rueben’s was his grandchildren, Xavier, Cooper, Elle and Penelope. He was a proud grandfather, attending every school function, sports game, recital and birthday. He was never without his camera, capturing memories of his beloved family.
In recent years, Rueben enjoyed retirement life with his beautiful wife. Together they enjoyed gardening, home projects, listening to music and taking care of their grandchildren.
Rueben is survived by his wife, Olivia; his children, Blanca and Adam Tondre, Rueben Jr. and Marcie Gamez, and Richard Gamez, his grandchildren, Xavier, Cooper, Elle and Penelope, five of his siblings and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and baby infant sister.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, with a rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m.. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 in the St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin, Texas 78758. The interment will immediately follow in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
