Sherry Jo grew up in Indianapolis. Her father John was in the Air Force. He was eventually stationed at Austin-Bergstrom and the family moved to the Austin area in 1967. Shortly thereafter, Sherry Jo met Michael Anderson at Infotronics working on the assembly line. It was love at first sight. They dated for 10 years before getting married on August 5, 1977 and were inseparable. They enjoyed restaurants, indoor movies, parties with friends and most of all, each other and their family.
Sherry Jo loved bingo almost as much as Michael. She was a bingo nut!!!! Her mother Helen helped her find her love for playing bingo. She was very lucky playing bingo… she won all the time. She won so often, it seemed like it was an income. She also liked gardening and her annual trips to Rockport, Texas for the hummingbird festival with friends. She was always ready to travel anywhere. When she could, she loved to visit family that lived out of town. Mostly to see niece’s Laurie and Kristen and families in St. Louis, Missouri and her nephew, John Bob, niece’s Penny, and Susie in Indiana.
She worked at IBM and then began teaching ASL (American Sign Language) in the 90’s. She loved teaching ASL and taught many of the students that went on to receive their interpreter license. She was recognized by Curves as “Golden Sneakers” winner and was so excited to have an article written about her fitness journey.
Sherry Jo loves crowds and was a people person, very trusting, truly honest, a loving soul and a religious person. She fiercely loved her family. She was exceptionally proud of her son Patrick, his wife Christi and her two grandkids, Grant and Savana. She was deaf, however was not born deaf. Her disability was recognized when she was in grade school. That allowed her to gain the ability to speak normally and she could read lips very well. She could actually speak so well that many people didn’t even know she was deaf when they first met her. She lost the remainder of her hearing when she was in her 30’s.
Sherry Jo will be dearly missed and we rejoice in the knowledge that she is listening to the heavenly choir and dancing in Heaven.
Sherry Jo was preceded in death by parents, John and Helen Patton; brothers Jack Patton and Jim Patton. She is survived by her Husband Michael Anderson of Austin TX, son Patrick Anderson of Buda Tx, daughter-in-law Christi; grandson Grant Anderson and wife Katie Rose of San Antonio, granddaughter Savana of Buda, great-grand dog Stryker and sister Della and husband Jimmy of Kingsland, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
