Shirley E. Cokendolpher, age 101, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Buckner Villas Campbell Center in Austin, Texas. She was born September 12, 1920 in Locker, Texas to Alvin and Susie (Blassingame) Newsom.
Shirley was a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church in Austin. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved sports, gardening and birdwatching. Shirley was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Houston Astros, the Texas Rangers and the Texas Longhorns. She enjoyed travelling, cooking and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Susie Newsom; her beloved husband, James Olen Cokendolpher; grandson-in-law, Kevin Luersen; great grandson, Jackson Coker; two brothers and three sisters. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James Darryl Cokendolpher and his wife Gayle and Rodney Cokendolpher and his wife Nora; eight grandchildren, Bryan Cokendolpher (Heather), Kevin Cokendolpher (Allyson), Lisa Cokendolpher-McCollum (Kevin), Shelley Cokendolpher-Kwaitkowski (Jon), Tara Walsh (Joe), Jack Coker, Jr. (fiancée Nora Winter), Jennifer Luersen, and Jon Coker (Laura); fourteen great grandchildren, Selleck Cokendolpher, Fletcher Cokendolpher, Connor Cokendolpher, Mason Cokendolpher, Tyler McCollum, Ethan McCollum, Jenna Kwiatkowski, Jayce Kwiatkowski, Megan Coker, Josh Coker, Heston Luersen, Reagan Luersen (Nancy), Jake Coker and Jared Coker; five great great grandchildren, Haizley Luersen, Emiley Luersen, Addison Luersen, Raylan Luersen and Adeline Luersen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
