Born on April 27, 1951, in Bastrop, Texas, Stella was the cherished daughter of Eurick and Robert Lee Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eurick and Robert Lee Grant; her brothers, Don Grant and Eurick Grant Jr.; her cousin, Bobby Blaylock; and her niece, Michelle Grant Milligan.
Stella accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Mount Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, under the leadership of the late Pastor H.M. Sneed. She later attended Great Hills Baptist Church, where she continued to grow in her faith.
After graduating high school, Stella worked as an Assistant Manager for renowned interior designer John Willis (JW Interiors). She was offered a scholarship to Waco State College for OSHA training but declined, choosing instead to remain close to her children.
Stella’s dedication, strong work ethic, and pursuit of excellence led her to a successful 30-year career at Austin State Hospital and School, where she retired in 2008 as a Production Manager III in food service.
Following retirement, Stella devoted her time to creating cherished memories with her family. She organized annual beach vacations and beautifully planned countless events — from birthday parties and family picnics to weddings, anniversaries, and baby showers. Her eye for design and heartfelt generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who attended her gatherings.
Stella also loved fishing, playing bingo, and traveling. Some of her most memorable adventures included visiting the Underground Railroad sites in New York City, marveling at the natural wonder of Niagara Falls, and exploring the Jesse James Outlaw Museum in Missouri.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and precious memories to her beloved children: Rachel Edwards, Michael Edwards, Cheryl Lane (and husband Harold Lane), and Darrell Edwards.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Jennifer Harris (and brother-in-law Roosevelt Harris) of Taylor, Texas; 14 grandchildren: Lashay Hylton (and husband Emmett), Shawntai Washington (and husband Jonathan), Ryan Houston, Brittany Scholars, Dorian Edwards, Destiny Edwards, John Edwards, Darrell Edwards Jr., Harold Lane Jr., Shayla Johnson, Malique Edwards, and Faith Edwards; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Stella’s memory will also be treasured by her special nieces Tiffany Lane, Shanay Elliott, and Erica Grant; her special nephews Kurtis Grant (wife Katy), Michael Anthony Edwards (wife Linda), and Timothy Joe Edwards (wife Karla); Brandon Kelly (wife Tami) as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.
She shared a particularly close bond with four special cousins: Doris Pier, Sharon Brown, Shirley Powell, and Billie Cavenaugh — and countless dear friends and loved ones.
Stella’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, family, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
