
Steven Kurt Hitt, 78, passed away on May 8, 2026, following a difficult battle with lung cancer. Born on May 27", 1947, in Fort Worth, James Kelsey Hitt and Dorothy Ruth Estes. Steve lived a life defined by hard work, craftsmanship, loyalty and deep love for his family.
Steve spent his school years in Arlington Texas and graduated from Arlington High School in 1965. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Steve was inducted on January 9, 1967, where he served in the airborne division. He was honorably discharged into the Naval Reserves on October 23rd, 1970, and completed his commitment to the Naval Reserve on January 8th, 1973.
Steve married Carolyn Hogue in 1967, and together they welcomed two children, Steven Kelsey Hitt and Diana Carol Hitt. Following their divorce in 1979, Steve moved with his children to Graham Texas where a new chapter of his life began.
While working as supervisor at the Hexcel manufacturing plant in Graham, Steve met the love of his life, Tami Renae Clay in 1981. Steve and Tami married in December 1983 and shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing.
During their years in Graham, Steve owned and operated a cabinet and custom furniture business. His craftsmanship became widely known throughout the community, and many homes in Graham still proudly feature custom cabinets and furniture built by Steve Hitt's skilled hands.
In 1995, Steve sold his business and moved with Tami to Madisonville, where he managed a propane company until 1998. They later settled in Smithville, where Steve served as a maintenance Superintendent for Acme Brick until his retirement in June 2011.
Retirement brought Steve some of his happiest moments. He loved fishing trips to Alaska, traveling with Tami and building a bourbon collection that became the envy of many friends and family members.
Steve was a man among men - strong, dependable, talented, and deeply loved. He will be missed by so many whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, James Kelsey Hitt, and his mother, Dorothy Langley.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Tami Hitt; his children, Steven K. Hitt and wife Lenae, Diana Carol Miller; his sister, Judith Marie Hitt; his brother, Thomas Paul Hitt, and his beloved grandchildren, Morgan Chase Miller, Keaton Steven Hitt, and Kelsey Marie Hitt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Steve's honor to organizations supporting U.S. veterans.
