Susan was raised in Garland, Texas where she attended school and eventually met and married the love of her life, Bruce Collins, in December of 1972. Following Bruce’s commitment to the USS Navy they settled in Garland and began careers at Texas Instruments. Those careers would take them to Lubbock. TX, where they welcomed their two children, Brian Collins and Stephanie Collins Wiemers. That same career would lead them to Austin in 1995.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Frances Sheffield, and her husband Bruce Collins. She is survived by her two children, Brian Collins, his wife Kristen, daughter Natalie, and Stephanie Wiemers, her husband Cole, and sons Jaxton and Judson. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn Haskell, husband E.C. and their family in North Carolina and Tennessee.
Susan was a loving wife and mother, but she found her true calling when it came to being a Mimi. She adored spending time with her grandkids, and would spoil them with whatever they wanted and didn’t care what their parents said. She was the best Mimi on the planet.
Susan was also loved by many friends and her church community. She enjoyed spending time with her Sunday school class and volunteering for different events at church, as well as in her community. She was always willing to give her time and energy to assist in any way possible. She loved with every bit of her being and had a heart of gold.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday July 15, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Pflugerville.
