Thomas William McCoy

Thomas William McCoy peacefully passed away on January 28, 2024. Thomas was born in Southgate, California on February 10,1929 to his parents Don Lester McCoy and Georgia Mae McCoy. Thomas went to various schools in California, Florida and Texas until his family settled in the Austin area. He attended Austin High School where he played football, baseball, and track/field graduating May,1947. He went to the University of Texas graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering Degree in May, 1952. He was then drafted by the U.S. Army and reported to Fort Smith, Arkansas for basic training in August 1952. From there he went to San Diego, California in January 1953 and was shipped overseas to Korea for the Korean War. Thomas came home August 1954 and met the love of his life Anna, and they were engaged on Thanksgiving, 1954 during the Texas/Texas A&M game. Thomas and Anna married on January 29, 1955. Thomas went to work for the Texas Highway Department in January1955 and worked for them for 33 years designing and building various roads and bridges around the Austin area. His last design and construction was Loop 360 and the Penny Backer Bridge over Lake Austin. He worked as an independent engineer for HDR for 4 years following his retirement. He retired for good in 1992 and spent his time working in his yard, hunting, and fishing. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Anna McCoy, his parents Don L. and Georgia McCoy, and his brother Don Richard McCoy. He is survived by his children Wesley (Donna)McCoy, Michael (Renee)McCoy, Sheryl (Mark)Hajda, and Don (Stacy)McCoy. He also is survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A visitation for Thomas will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A committal service will occur Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.

Serving as pallbearers are Don McCoy, Glen McCoy, Mark David Hajda, Billy Robertson, Zane McCoy and Thomas McCoy.
