Tommy is survived by his son Stephen Pruett and wife Kim of Rockdale, Texas and daughter Theresa Randolph and husband Robert of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dave Pruett and wife Victoria of Rockdale, Texas, Cindy Burris and husband Taylor of Rockdale, Texas, Katherine Crickenberger and husband Nate of Austin, Texas and Kyle Moore of Rockdale, Texas along with three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, parents Thomas and Viola Pruett and many dear relatives.
Tommy was born on January 4th 1942 in Jollyville, Texas to Thomas and Viola Pruett. He graduated from Round Rock High School in 1960 and later pursued classes at University of Texas in Austin and electronic school in Fort Worth. He married Mary, the love of his life, in 1961. Throughout his life, Tommy was a real estate broker, managed a furniture store and retired from Texas Crushed Stone as a train engineer. Over the years, the couple settled in Austin and brought two children into their home and Tommy set about teaching them everything practical he thought they might need in life including mechanic work, taxes, construction and much more. His children remember him as a kind, supportive, hard-working and loving father who encouraged them to dream big and out-work everyone else in the room while most importantly, being happy in life. His grand-children, however, will remember him as a complete push-over with the greatest laugh they’ve ever heard.
In his later years, Tommy enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. He went to China, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and all over the continental United States. He was a very social, out-going man who loved good conversations and dirty jokes. He had a passion for numbers, particularly ones with dollar signs in front of them, and who led by example that you’re never too old to stop learning. He was an active and dedicated member of the North Austin Lions Club for many years and received the President's Award for Outstanding Leadership in 2015.
He will be laid to rest with his wife, Mary, on April 4th, 2026, at 1:30pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery in Pflugerville. All are welcome to come and celebrate Tommy’s wonderful life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to North Austin Lions Club on Justin Lane and think of him the next time you play dominoes. Condolences and fond memories can be sent to the Cook-Walden website.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Gracy Woods II Nursing Center for their endless dedication to their residents and the ICU/IMU staff at Saint David’s North for their effort and compassion.
