Vivian Maria Tealer Redmond was welcomed into this life on December 16, 1942, by parents Frank Leonard Tealer, Sr., and Verda Mae Walker Tealer. With their parents, Vivian and older brothers Lonnie Clifford and Robert Allen lived in Taylor, Texas. Vivian was a good student while attending O. L. Price High School and continued to broaden her knowledge as an adult by studying several subjects in college.
Vivian accepted Christ as a child. She was baptized at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor. As an adult, she moved to Austin and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Years later, she became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and The Mount was her final church home.
Vivian was an excellent cook, singer, and writer. She enjoyed word puzzles, dancing, and watching old westerns. She possessed an undeniable flair for dressing, and she was well-known for her suits, hats, and shoes. Known by many as “Vicki” or “Miss Vivian”, she was considered easy to talk to by people of all ages. She was a good listener, recognizing when to offer encouragement, advice, or tough love.
Resourceful and professionally oriented, Vivian leveraged her early work experience and coursework in business into a career that spanned more than 30 years. She was employed for several years as a legal assistant before moving to the state government. While at the Texas Department of Labor and Standards, Vivian progressed from a secretarial position to division director. She later transitioned to Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, where she worked as a borrower locate specialist.
Vivian was formerly married to Staff Sergeant Kenneth R. Lewis. His military service resulted in them living throughout the United States and in Europe. Ken preceded her in death at a young age. After Ken’s passing, Vivian focused on making the best life possible for their daughter, Virda, despite being a single parent. Together, Vivian and Virda negotiated Virda’s journey from elementary school through college graduation, with Vivian providing an excellent example of determination, compassion, and independence for her daughter.
A chance meeting with Roy Redmond changed Vivian’s life. She and her soulmate were married in 1984, and their love story lasted more than 41 years. The couple respected and supported each other. They were inseparable, rarely spending a night apart during their entire marriage. Recognized as a sharply dressed couple, Roy and Vivian were usually seen wearing color-coordinated outfits. In addition to being Roy’s life partner, Vivian also managed his music group, Roy Redmond and Sequence. They shared a strong faith in God, and they were both very active in Mt. Sinai. Vivian was committed to serving within the church for nearly 40 years. She held several positions, including: Mt. Sinai Senior Mission Auxiliary, Recording Secretary, member of Hannah Circle, Facilitator of All Cancers Survivors Ministry, member of Senior Ministry, and Deaconess. She remained active until her health started to decline in 2024.
Vivian was home with Roy and surrounded by family when she passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at age 83. She is survived by loving husband Roy Redmond; daughter, Virda Rhem (Edward); stepchildren: Phillip Redmond, Roy Lee Redmond (Diantha), Raquel Baxter, and Krystal Redmond; sister-in-law, Ada Tealer; brothers-in-law: Gerald Livas (Frances) and Jerry Livas (Cynthia); special nephew, Willie Brown (John); numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special cousin, Simonetta Hendrix; longtime friend, LaVerne Johnson; and the many people whose lives were improved through Vivian’s service and mentorship. Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank Tealer, Sr., and Verda Tealer; brothers: Frank Tealer, Jr., Lonnie Tealer, and Robert Tealer; and sisters-in-law: Doris Tealer, Deborah Devrow, Audrey Redmond, and Marion Jackson.
Vivian had a rich, meaningful, long life. She was an inspiration to others. May she rest in peace.
