Wayne Bleacher Talley, of Pflugerville, Texas, died on December 31st, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was raised in Llano County, Texas by parents Nolan A Talley, Sr. and Sarah Gladys Talley with his siblings Nolan A. Talley, Jr., Teddy Joe Talley and Joyce Talley Bush. Wayne served in the US Navy as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class aboard the USS Juneau in the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged, Wayne returned with a custom horseshoe tattoo that read “Good Luck”. He became enamored of his devoted wife of 68 years, Judy. She first caught his eye when she was the FFA Sweetheart in the Mason County parade. She recalls that he cut a fine figure on the dance floor.
Wayne and Judy married in August, 1955, settling in Austin where Wayne worked in the title business with Austin Title Company for 27 years. Wayne was a devoted father to his girls Robin, Gayla, and Terri and his son Shaun.
His children were his greatest pride. God gave Wayne his three daughters. Robin gave Wayne his son Shaun. He was known as a tough disciplinarian, ready to keep his kiddos in line in the early years, but a teddy bear in his golden years. He was a feared father to the fellas that the girls brought around to court them. All the guys that Shaun brought around loved Wayne. He devoted time in the upbringing of his special needs great-granddaughter Brylea and spent much time loving and assisting in her activities.
Among his great loves were animals. The Talleys’ sprawling homestead was home to their horses and dogs. The girls loved going into the acreage surrounding their property to explore old homes and the woods with their many German Shepherds. As a fierce competitor, Wayne was an excellent golfer and infamous card shark. He got a real kick from taking money off his friends; when a wager was made he won often. His other hobbies included grilling, water skiing, snow skiing, playing tennis, and hunting. He took great pride in his yard and had one of the prettiest on the golf course.
He was also of service to the community as a Boy Scout leader, a church deacon, and Bailiff of Travis County Court. His legacy lives on with his wife Judy, his children Gayla Talley and husband Mark Kiester, Terri Talley Nassour, and Shaun Talley; his grandchildren Jay Kiester (Elizabeth), Bret Kiester (Amanda), Michael Nassour, Adam and Anthony Hernandez; and his great-grandchildren Brylea, Nolan, Taylor, Joseph, Luke, Nathan, and Avery.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, his daughter, Robin Talley Hernandez, and his grandson, Alex Hernandez. Wayne would have been 95 on his birthday, January 29th.
Please join us in a celebration of Wayne’s life to be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2-4 pm, at the County Line on the Lake, 5204 RR 2222, Austin, Texas.
