Alan Raymond Kurth’s story began May 4th, 1945, as the middle child to Mildred and Raymond Kurth. Alan was born in Aurora, Illinois. Soon after moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a young child Alan developed rheumatic fever. The doctor told his parents Alan needed dry desert air. Mildred and Raymond did not hesitate and immediately moved their small family to Phoenix, Arizona. Upon arrival Alan, as he would tell us in his stories, he was disappointed as he did not step into the wild-wild west as the picture movies portrayed.
Alan was very proud to live in Phoenix, AZ. He spent his teen years, growing up, make lifelong friends, attending school, and cruising Central Avenue, admiring the vehicles/night life. Alan attended Central High School and graduated in 1963. Soon after graduation, Alan enlisted in the Navy where he was awarded: the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the Viet Nam Services Medal.
In 1973, his first daughter Danielle (Dani) was born. In 1977, his second daughter Allison (Ali) was born. Alan pampered and doted on his baby girls. His love and affection for them was beautiful and apparent to all those around him.
Phoenix is where he would meet the love of his life, Debbie. Alan and Debbie had a whirlwind romance and were married December 6th, 1995 in Sedona, AZ. Alan and Debbie spent many dates dancing at Mr. Lucky’s and other little Honky-Tonks throughout the valley.
Alan had an extremely large Hawaiian shirt collection which was set in motion with his most favorite one, the one he bought during his honeymoon. The collection rapidly grew to 90 plus shirts, over the next twenty-five years. Alan was renowned for his cooking skills. He loved Sushi and Teppanyaki and often caught the food, like a seal catching a fish. He was very talented! Everyone always knew they would have plenty of homemade delicious food to eat, while visiting the Kurth house. Alan’s homemade whip cream was like no other.
Alan’s grandchildren were his heart and joy. All 20 of them! Time spent at G-Pa and Maama’s house swimming and having BBQ’s, were always special.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Alan were: his mother Mildred Kurth, father Raymond Kurth, and his sister Jennine.
As he rose up moments before he passed, it was at that moment, he started his next adventure. Love of laughter with friends and family did not end with his death. Alan will be remembered as the family storyteller, making certain everyone knew the stories of how he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Debbie.
Alan is survived by Debbie, his wife and soulmate of 25 years, his cherished little sister Julie and her husband and dear friend Chris (Woody) Woodworth, his two daughters Danielle (Matt) Miranda and Allison Taylor, and his grandchildren Devon Taylor, Mckenzie Miranda, and Brody Taylor. His three nieces Dina Woodworth, Jessica (Chris) Hurley, and Lauren (Bill) Melcher. Alan held close to his heart the esteemed and proud honor of being Jessie and Lauren’s Godfather. Alan also leaves behind his blended family; Delta (Michael) Apodaca, Don (Sherri) Martin, Donette (Travis) Logan, and Dustin (Chariti) Martin.
