Al’s professional career spanned nearly thirty years of dedicated service to Armour Foods Company, where he rose to the position of CEO and President. He also served as a deacon at the North Phoenix Baptist Church for more than twenty years. Al’s work ethic, determination, deep religious convictions, devotion to his family, and compassion all helped to forge his life’s path; a path that started in the small rural towns dotting north-central Texas and extending to Phoenix, Arizona, with twelve major stops along the way. Al was part of a culture which, in recent times, has been called The Greatest Generation. All those who knew him and what he personified, would definitely agree.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy; and brothers, Bill, Tom, and Pete. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mauvaline Joyce Drain; son, Ronald D. Drain; daughter, Deborah Kay (Drain) Crawford; daughter-in-law, Diana S. (Butcher) Drain; son-in-law, Scott R. Crawford. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Amy, Ryan, and Craig; and three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Preston, and Drake.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. at the Assisted Living facility, Building 7000 on the campus of The Terraces of Phoenix, 7550 N. 16th Street, Phoenix, AZ. Friends are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Phoenix, AZ 85014, or www.hov.org.
