Alva James Rugg

ALVA (AL) JAMES RUGG, age 88, passed away March 18, 2017. Born in Blaine, Colorado Al attended high school in Hugo, Colorado after which the family bought a ranch and moved to Ismay, Montana. In 1951 Al became a proud member of the US Air Force and served in Korea, receiving 4 service medals. After discharge he attended Western New Mexico University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1959. After living and working in San Francisco, Al Moved to Arizona in 1964 and enjoyed careers in the insurance and hospitality industries as well as being a business owner.

Al was a social person with a great sense of humor who loved traveling, golfing, Hawaii, and attending ASU and Cardinals football, and Suns basketball games. He loved everything to do with cars and talking shop with his grandson, Travis and playing cards with granddaughters, Nicole and Cheyanne and cousin, Judy. Al is survived by his wife Nell, daughter Julie Woodrow, grandchildren Travis, Nicole, and Cheyanne Woodrow, sister Louise Tague of Belle Fourshe, SD and brother Glenn Rugg of Plevna, MT. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 27 at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd. followed by burial in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.
