Arthur “Bo” Mariano Bojorquez Jr., 87, of Phoenix, Arizona entered into Heaven on March 12, 2025. Arthur was born in Los Angeles, California on September 17, 1937, the oldest of three children to Arthur Mendoza Bojorquez and Helen Diaz Bojorquez.
Arthur and his family lived between LA and Phoenix while he grew up. He attended several schools which included South Mountain High School in Phoenix. While still a Junior in HS, Arthur joined the National Guard. He went to Army basic training at Fort Orr in California since he had nothing better to do that summer right after high school. After a year in the National Guard, Arthur joined the Air Force. Soon after, Arthur was married and had his first daughter, Kathy Gamble. The marriage did not last because his wife did not care for the military life. While enlisted he deployed to Vietnam. Upon returning to the States, and on leave, Arthur met the love of his life, Juanita, at a party he crashed in her back yard. He was visiting his cousins, who lived across the street from Juanita. As Arthur was a Miliary Man he was warmly welcomed by her uncles who were ex-military and wanted to hear all about his time in Vietnam. Juanita already had 3 children (Richard, James and Rebecca), but it didn’t bother Arthur. After just 2 weeks of courting her, Arthur asked Juanita to marry him, but before they went forward, Arthur went and asked her mother, Rose and father, Pete Nunez for their blessing. Pete wanted to keep his grandchildren with him in California, but Arthur said, “I take Juanita, I also take all 3 children with me”. Three months later they were married in Las Vegas, October 1967. A year later, they welcomed one more daughter, Susan.
He and his family were stationed in several locations including Hamiliton Air For Base, Navado, California, a remote radar site in Baudette, Minnesota, Monkey Mountain radar site in Osan, Korea, McCord Air Force Base, Tacoma, Washington, Cheyenne Mountain Colorado Springs, Colorado, Templehoff Airport Berlin, Germany for 3 years and then to Luke AFB in Arizona where he retired from the United State Air Force after serving for 26 years. Arthur was awarded all of the following; Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendations Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, and Army Good Conduct Medal item 13 with 1 Bronze Loop, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 5 Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. His primary assignment was a “Radar Operator”.
After retiring from the Air Force, Arthur also worked in security at the Palo Verde Nuclear Plant just outside Phoenix and then took a position at Honey Well Security where he worked for another 15 years before his second retirement
Arthur remained busy. He belonged to several organizations; VFW, Disabled Veterans, American Legion DAV Chapter 20, where he volunteered as Bar Manager for several years, to mention a few. In his later years he enjoyed going to “Bar Bingo” at the American Legion every Saturday in Glendale. He liked to watch the Cardinals play. His favorite programs included NCIS, Storage Wars and Family Feud.
Arthur leaves behind his wife Juanita; children Richard, James, Rebecca (Jaime Lopez), Susan (David Lemerond) and his forever adopted son, Bret Bateman.
