

In 1950 the family moved to Rego Park, Queens. After high school, he studied at St. John’s University in New York and then began his career in Advertising working for NYC’s Channel 5 and then on to the HRP Ad Agency. He married Alice Exum in April of 1971 and subsequently moved to Northport, NY. In Northport, he was very active in St. Paul’s Church as well as several philanthropic and educational organizations. He enjoyed spending weekends cruising the Long Island Sound with family aboard “Daddy’s Mink”.
After 12 years in Northport, Bernie took a job at the CBS affiliate, Channel 10 in Phoenix. He was an accomplished National Sales Manger. He was always enthusiastically involved in coaching his kids sports teams. Bernie had an avid interest in Irish and Scottish music and was a member of several Bagpipe Bands in the Phoenix area. He enjoyed his membership in the Irish Cultural Center and was a fixture at Rosie McCaffrey’s Irish Pub.
He is survived by his three children, Alison Angie Flynn (Jason Gill) of Los Angeles, Stephanie Anne Flynn of Denver, and Daniel Bernard Flynn of Los Angeles; his two beloved grandchildren, Zoe and Ivy Flynn; his sisters, Eileen Flynn Richards, of Southampton, NY, Joan Flynn of NYC, and Marie Flynn Sullivan of Watertown, NY as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. His sense of humor and smiling eyes will be greatly missed. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phoenix Pipe Band care of the Irish Cultural Center (602) 258-0109. Memorial Services are being held at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary at 3pm on Saturday 8/9.
