

Beverley Jean (Bird) Carpenter South was born Oct.15, 1933 to Thomas & Bessie Bird in Terre Haute, IN. She passed away Nov. 15, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ. She married Gorden Carpenter in East St. Louis. IL, Feb 6, 1953, and they were sealed later that year in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were happy together, and were blessed with five children. Gorden passed away in December 1963. Beverley kept his memory alive for her children by telling them stories about their dad, and keeping close relationships with his wonderful family. In 1969 Beverley married James L. South, Sr., who had five children as well. Jim was a wonderful stepfather, and passed away in May 1988. Beverley will be greatly missed by her children Cherie (Jonathan) Hodson, Jennifer (Garry) Shipwash, Meridee Carpenter, James Carpenter, Curtis (Leanne) Carpenter; step-children Linda (John) Tackett-Crass, Dorrie (Bruce) Mighton, David (Lisa) South, and Paul South; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many step-grandchildren. Her stepson James South, Jr. and step-grandson Jasun Council passed on before her. Beverley, who attended BYU before her marriage to Gorden, later graduated from ASU with a teaching degree. She loved teaching American Sign Language at Phoenix College, and also enjoyed her years as an ASL interpreter. Beverley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings including Relief Society President and Relief Society teacher. She was a wonderful mother, grandma & friend. She never met a stranger, and was loved by all who knew her.
