Camryn Cayla Curtis was born on March 7, 1996. Camryn has been an absolute joy to her parents from the very beginning. Camryn was such a cute, chubby little baby. Camryn has been so smart from the time she was very young—she started to speak at 9 months, learned to read before kindergarten, and figured out multiplication on her own when she was 6. Camryn took honors classes in Junior High and AP classes during high school. Camryn was the Valedictorian of her graduating class, and graduated from ASU with honors, Summa cum laude.
Education and learning were so important to Camryn, that she went to college to become a teacher. Camryn felt led by God to her chosen profession, and used her time as a teacher to not only teach her students the subject of English, but to show God’s love to them through her thoughtfulness and care. Camryn was an exceptional teacher. Camryn loves her students and wants them to succeed in school, but more importantly, to have success in life.
Family is everything to Camryn and she loves all of her family members intensely. Camryn is especially close to her two younger brothers, Carter and Calvin, and younger sister, Carly, and she is the best big sister ever. Camryn and her siblings did everything together— spending hours in the swimming pool, playing music and video games, making Curtis Kid Production movies, laughing, and playing. Camryn is the one who discovered Better Piggies Rescue for Carly and they spent hours together watching pig videos, looking at pig pictures, and doing crafts. Camryn was always putting together fun activities, treasure hunts, and giving thoughtful gifts. When Camryn was 17, her younger brother, Carter, passed away at age 14. Carter’s passing was devastating for the entire family.
When Camryn was a young teen, outside of family and close friends, she often felt lonely. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, Camryn decided that she would seek out others who seemed sad or lonely and do what she could to cheer and lift them up. Because Camryn is familiar with those feelings, she spotted them easily in others. Camryn is the kind of person who notices someone sitting by themself and joins them. Camryn would invite others to join her circle of friends. Camryn was always thinking of others and doing what she could to brighten their day.
Music has always been an important part of Camryn’s life. Camryn loves playing music with her siblings. Camryn took piano lessons when she was younger and continued to play throughout her life. Camryn played the flute in junior high and high school, participating in the Marching band and Symphonic band. Camryn also played the piccolo and marched in the ASU Sundevils Marching Band in college. During Camryn’s freshman year at ASU she got to march in the pre-game show for the Super Bowl.
Camryn can light up a room with her smile and she loves to laugh. Camryn is so clever and witty and she loves to have pun-wars with her dad. Camryn loves to both read and watch movies, especially fantasy, science fiction, DC Comics, and the Marvel Universe. Camryn loves to “geek out” with her family and friends about Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Sherlock Holmes, Star Wars, and Star Trek. Camryn loves to play Dungeons and Dragons with her family and friends. Camryn ran a D&D club at the school she taught at, Valor Preparatory Academy, and was the Dungeon Master several times for Carly’s friends. Camryn has always been her mom’s biggest cheerleader as her mom began to homeschool Carly. Camryn is always interested in what they are learning and she enjoyed having discussions about curriculum, projects, and methods.
In October 2023, Camryn started dating Michael Green and soon they were spending every waking moment with each other. Camryn and Michael were engaged on December 27, 2023 and were married and sealed in the Phoenix Temple just a month later on January 26, 2024. Camryn has never seemed happier than while she was falling in love with Michael, getting married, and being Michael’s wife, Camryn Cayla Curtis Green.
Another important aspect of Camryn’s life is her faith in Jesus Christ. Camryn loves her Savior and her Heavenly Father and relied on Them throughout her whole life. Camryn was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 8 years old. Camryn attended seminary during high school and institute during college. Camryn enjoys doing family history work, serving in the temple, and served in many different callings in the Church.
Camryn’s faith and love of her Savior are the over-arching guide to every aspect of her life, and in her dealings with people and the world around her. Camryn spends so much of her time thinking about the needs of others, and acting on those impressions. Camryn would give needed hugs, notes of encouragement, bright smiles, thoughtful gifts, and acts of service to show both her love and God’s love for others as often as she could. Camryn truly knows how to do God’s work. Camryn was an angel on earth, and is continuing on her journey, with her brother Carter, as angels in heaven. Camryn is loved by so many and will leave a huge hole in all of our hearts, until we can be together again.
A visitation for Camryn will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13277 W Thomas Rd, Goodyear, AZ 85395, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
