Carl Anthony Brockman Jr., 68, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Tammy Brockman, his son Carl Anthony Brockman lll, his brother Robert Brockman (Debi) and his six sisters, Carole Burrows, Barbara Bell (Al), Sherry Couch (Travis), Linda Mihm (David), Pam Lamkin, Julia Koenig (Claudius); numerous nieces and nephews and Isabel Henrich of Phoenix, the mother of his son. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Carl was born in Bakersfield, California. He enjoyed his childhood years on Brockman Farms, in Delano, CA where the family grew cotton, almonds and grapes. He could often be found riding around on his favorite piece of farm equipment - his John Deere Tractor. He followed in his Dad's footsteps and attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. He loved to tease his sisters who knew him as "Junior" and enjoyed many ventures and adventures with his brother. He worked at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, Boeing in Washington and later moved to Arizona where he was a Network Systems Architect for AT&T. In 1987, he met his wife Tammy, married her in 1991 and settled in Glendale, Arizona. He loved doting on his wife and in return he was her pillar of strength. He also loved mentoring his son Tony and giving fatherly advice; always making Tony feel special.
According to his siblings, he spent his "hippie years" in Santa Cruz. Irresistibly drawn to the magic of making music, in his mid 20's Carl, with guitar in hand, joined his friend Harold and formed the band "Oasis" in Seattle. He spent endless hours "jamming", trying out new ideas and writing songs with the band. Although the competition was tough, Carl, as "Marketing Manager" convinced various venue owners of the virtues of the group. Carl was fond of telling stories of unusual things he had done or seen. Sometimes you wondered if he was making it up. Thus, he was successful in obtaining numerous music "gigs" for the band. This fondness for music did not wane even when he stepped onto the path leading to real jobs, mortgages and family.
One of Carl's most fulfilling endeavors was being a volunteer member of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Search and Rescue K9 Posse. Regardless of the time of day, Carl was dedicated to the mission of searching for lost individuals. He was especially proud of his two rescue dogs, Dieter and Syrah, and the multiple rescues reuniting loved ones with each other during his tenure.
Although God called him home early, Carl embraced life to its fullest touching many who crossed his path. He was a hero to some, a teacher to others and an example to us all. Carl will be dearly missed.
