Catalina "Cathy" Rivas

Catalina, mejor conocida como Cathy, era una mujer confiable y tradicional en su enfoque de su vida y en sus relaciones. Era de mente estricta y le gustaba "apegarse a las reglas". Ella se ganó el respeto y cariño de todos los que la conocieron. También era una mujer meticulosa, cuidadosamente disciplinada y ordenada en prácticamente todo lo que emprendía. Era una mujer amorosa y muy dedicada a su familia. Los fines de semana eran siempre especiales, ella horneaba magdalenas, o compraba tortrix o hacia poporopos para ver la televisión con sus hijos y mamá. Los domingos nunca faltaron los “Corn Flakes para el desayuno, o el Pollo Campero para celebrar los cumpleaños o el final del ciclo escolar. Le gustaban las manualidades y la decoración interior de la casa. Hacia cortinas, cubrecamas y hasta la ropita de sus hijos. Era muy creativa y la frase “no puedo” no existía en su vocabulario.

Sus padres fueron María Magdalena Rivas Estrada y Julio Felipe Chávez. Ella fue educada para ser segura de sí misma y ser una persona confiable. Estas fueron características que le servirían bien a lo largo de su vida.

Crecer en el hogar RIVAS fue un tanto tradicional a la mayoría de los hogares. Cathy creció con 2 hermanos Alda Remigia y Julio Cesar, siendo ella la hermana de Enmedio. Cathy y sus hermanos pueden haber tenido las rivalidades típicas de hermanos mientras crecían, pero Cathy siempre fue leal a su familia.

Cuando era niña, Cathy No era agresiva y nunca forzó su camino en los juegos u otras actividades infantiles. En su tiempo libre le gustaba leer. A los 10 años Cathy se graduó de mecanógrafa y a los 12 años comenzó a dar clases de Mecanografía en la academia donde se graduó. Con dicho trabajo comenzó a ayudar a su mamá con sus gastos personales.

Los maestros y amigos de Cathy generalmente pensaban que ella era una persona muy seria pero muy responsable e inteligente. Disfrutó de algunos cursos más que de otros, teniendo clases y profesores favoritos. Su clase favorita en la escuela era Matemáticas. Fue una de las mejores estudiantes con los puntajes más altos.

Cathy se graduó de Perito Contador en el prestigioso Colegio Católico Sagrado Corazón en 1958 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Comenzó a trabajar en diferentes compañías como Librería La Proa, Oficina de Contabilidad Rodriguez & Asociados y la Librería EDelCid. Después de 24 años de trabajar para otros, Ella inicio su propia oficina de contabilidad en 1982 y tenía más de 60 clientes.

Cathy se unió en matrimonio con Rogelio Rene Rivas de Leon con quien procrearon 4 hijos, Edwin Rogelio, Brenda Maritza, Mario Adolfo y Karla Krissel.

Cathy fue una mujer fuerte y luchadora que trabajo mucho para sacar adelante a sus hijos. Ella fue un ejemplo de fortaleza y perseverancia a quien sus hijos consideraban su heroína. Pese a que la vida fue muy cruel al llevarse a sus varones cuando ellos eran muy jóvenes, ella continuó hacia adelante por sus hijas ejemplificando su gran fuerza y valor. Cathy tenía un gran sentido del humor y muchas veces convertía situaciones difíciles en situaciones cómicas. Y si alguna vez estaba llorando, inmediatamente se limpiaba sus lágrimas y sonreía para no provocar angustias o preocupaciones a nadie. Le gustaba estar en contacto con sus amigas de la juventud y mantener al grupo del Sagrado Corazón unido.

Cathy disfrutaba mucho las películas de antaño, le gustaba tejer, leer, ir al casino y viajar. En compañía de su hermana e hijos viajo a muchos lugares dentro y fuera de Guatemala. Siendo sus viajes favoritos, la visita a la basílica de la virgen de Guadalupe, Acapulco y Cancún en México. También disfrutó mucho su viaje a Lima y Cajamarca en Perú, y sobre todo las visitas a sus hijos en Atlanta Georgia, Chico California y Phoenix Arizona. acompañó a su hija Karla a viajes de desarrollo profesional y de salud como Costa Rica, Republica Dominicana, Cuba, Guadalajara y Oaxaca en México, Sudáfrica, Zimbawe e Inglaterra. Le gustaba tomar muchas fotografías y videos para conservar gratos momentos.

Cathy disfruto mucho cada momento feliz de su vida. Apoy ó a familiares y amigos en las buenas y en las malas. Y también disfrutó de los éxitos de sus hijos.

La salud de Cathy comenzó a decaer desde el 2014 cuando sorpresivamente se Desmayó y lastimo su cabeza. Insuficiencia renal y signos de Alzhaimer’s se presentaron y al correr de los años se empeoró su salud. Ella perdió la batalla contra estas enfermedades el 7 de enero del 2022.

Descanse en paz la gran mujer que Dios nos dio por madre.

Biography of Catalina Rivas

Catalina, better known as Cathy, was a reliable and traditional woman in her approach to her life and relationships. she was strict-minded and liked to "stick to the rules." She earned the respect and affection of everyone who knew her. She was also a meticulous woman, carefully disciplined and orderly in practically everything she undertook. She was a loving woman and very dedicated to her family. Weekends were always special, she baked muffins, or bought tortrix or made popcorn to watch TV with her children and mom. On Sundays there was never a lack of "Corn Flakes" for breakfast, or Pollo Campero to celebrate birthdays or the end of the school year. She liked crafts and the interior decoration of the house. She made curtains, bedspreads and even the clothes of her children. She was very creative and the phrase "I can't" didn't exist in her vocabulary.

Her parents were María Magdalena Rivas Estrada and Julio Felipe Chávez. She was brought up to be self-confident and a reliable person. These were characteristics that would serve her well throughout her life.

Growing up in the RIVAS home was somewhat traditional to most households. Cathy grew up with 2 siblings Alda Remigia and Julio Cesar, she was the middle child. Cathy and her siblings may have had typical sibling rivalries growing up, but Cathy was always loyal to her family.

As a child, Cathy was not aggressive and never forced her way into games or other children's activities. In her spare time she liked to read. At age 10 Cathy graduated as a typist and at age 12 she began teaching Typing at the academy where she graduated. With her work she began to help her mother with her personal expenses.

Cathy's teachers and friends generally thought that she was a very serious person but very responsible and intelligent. she enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. Her favorite class at school was Math. She was one of the best students with the highest scores.

Cathy graduated as an Accountant from the prestigious Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1958 in Guatemala City. she began working in different companies such as Librería La Proa, Oficina de Contabilidad Rodriguez & Asociados and Librería EDelCid. After 22 years of working for others, she started her own accounting office in 1982 and had over 60 clients.

Cathy was united in marriage with Rogelio Rene Rivas de Leon with whom they had 4 children, Edwin Rogelio, Brenda Maritza, Mario Adolfo and Karla Krissel.

Cathy was a strong and feisty woman who worked hard to raise her children. She was an example of strength and perseverance whom her children considered their heroine. Although life was very cruel in taking her boys when they were very young, she continued forward for her daughters exemplifying her great strength and courage. Cathy had a great sense of humor and often turned difficult situations into comical ones. And if she was ever crying, she would immediately wipe away her tears and smile so as not to provoke distress or worry to anyone. She enjoyed being in touch with her friends from her youth and keeping the Sacred Heart group together.

Cathy really enjoyed the movies of yesterday, she liked to knit, read, go to the casino and travel. In the company of her sister and children she traveled to many places inside and outside Guatemala. Being her favorite trips, the visit to the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Acapulco and Cancun in Mexico. she also enjoyed her trip to Lima and Cajamarca in Peru, and especially the visits to her children in Atlanta Georgia, Chico California and Phoenix Arizona. She accompanied her daughter Karla on professional development and health trips such as Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Guadalajara and Oaxaca in Mexico, South Africa, Zimbabwe and England. she liked to take many photographs and videos to preserve pleasant moments.

Cathy really enjoyed every happy moment of her life. She supported her family and friends through good and bad times. And she also enjoyed the successes of her children.

Cathy's health began to decline since 2014 when she surprisingly fainted and hurt her head. Kidney failure and signs of Alzheimer's occurred and over the years her health worsened. She lost the battle against these diseases on January 7, 2022.

Rest in peace the great woman that God gave us as a mother.

A memorial service for Catalina will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Greer-Wilson Chapel, 5921 West Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033.
