I selected Chanson as my JROTC Battalion Commander his senior year at SMHS. Smart, handsome, friendly, he also had about him an aura of command that made him a natural leader. People looked to him for solutions and he usually had realistic, thoughtful answers.

One time I assigned the battalion officers to read a chapter from "Killer Angels," a book on the Civil War.  We discussed the chapter a week later, and only Chanson could answer probing questions about it. He hadn't just read it, but had thought about it.

He brought that approach to everything he did. A serious student not just in class but in life. He led our shooting team, and seriously tried to interest noncadets in joining our battalion. 

Chanson had the sterling character we hoped to impart in that course, but he brought it with him. We had nothing to teach him about integrity, moral courage, or doing the right thing just because it was the right thing. He modeled those characteristics every day. It was a joy working with him. I cried when I heard he was gone.

Rest in peace, buddy. You weren't here long but you left a lasting impression on those in your world.

I had the opportunity to be a part of Chanson's life both as his biology instructor at South Mountain  High School and as his mentor in the YMCA Achievers Program. Chanson had always impressed me with his honesty, integrity, and maturity level as a young man. His enthusiasm was contagious and his leadership skills phenomenal.  All my prayers and condolences go to his family from this moment on. Chanson left an indelible mark on everyone he met. I am proud to have had him as a student and to have known him as a person.

My best friend ever. He always checked on me when I was locked up.  We would go exploring so much in these woods at Lincoln park that over the years we created a trail.  Because of you I know myself. Blood brothers. Pricked our finger and touched eacothers blood. 
   Damn I miss you. Hurts every time I think of it 


Chance was always down for an adventure when ever we got together. The older kids always ran off without us but we didnt care. We lost touch when we got older but the love i have more my cousin hasnt gone anywhere. This just.....

I selected Chanson as my Junior ROTC Battalion Commander for school year 01-02 because of his leadership and likeableness. So sad that he will not know the satisfactions of fatherhood, of professional advancement, of living out the life of a good man, loved and respected and admired by everyone. Too soon gone but not forgotten.

Prayers and sympathies to Chanson's loved ones. Thinking of you today, Chanson. The world is a lesser place without you.

Earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal. We are praying for the family and friends.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

It hurt my heart to hear that Chanson is no longer with us.  Chanson will truly be missed.  My Prayers go out to the entire family.

We would like to Thank God for allowing us to have Chanson Almar Shells for 31 great years!!! Chanson, the family circle has again been broken with a link gone from our chain, but though we're parted for a while we know we'll meet again. We will always remember your spirit which is still very much alive, that was the real you! You have just been let free, Oh, if we could only see! We ask you to let Jesus be your guide because his word will show you the way! We never imagined life without you. It's not easy for the family to say goodbye, so we won't. It hurts our hearts knowing we'll never see you again, we just feel like you left us way to soon. We're very grateful for the time we spent and the memories we have, but we can't lie Chanson we would do anything to have many years with  you by our side. An enterprise school friend, he has  such a good soul. Sympathy to all his family.

I met Chanson thru Rancho Feliz's charitable work in Agua Prieta, Mexico. He was always the first to pitch in and help. He was fun and gregarious and the world will be a lesser place without him. My thoughts are with the family.

I am shocked and sad to learn of this news.  I remember when Chanson was born.  The Shells family has my sympathies.
