

At the age of 5 Charles' parents moved to Phoenix, Arizona in search of greater job opportunities. Charles grew up in a God fearing household whose parents instilled in him a strong work ethic coupled with a desire to be and do more, go the extra mile.
Charles attended Booker T. Washington and Bethune Elementary and graduated from High School in 1954, from George Washington Carver High School which was one of the last segregated High Schools in Arizona. While Charles earned respectable grades in the classroom, he displayed remarkable talent in athletics: Track and Field; Football and Basketball. Most notable was his excellence in Track and field- attaining all state top ranking in the Hurdles and 100 meter sprint which lead to him being offered a full ride Athletic Scholarship to University of Arizona. He would later complete his Teaching credential at Arizona State University.
Charles did not shy away from exploring new opportunities to learn and/or pursue a variety of roles and responsibilities. He worked at the Union Railroad Station as a Porter/ Red Cap; 1 year in the Marine Corps; 8 years in National Guard Reserves; Bail Bondsman; He eventually retired after 20+ years as an educator focusing on Physical Education and Recreation.
In addition, Charles also possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and successfully built and managed several rental properties. One of Charlie's favorite pastimes was playing golf. He provided affordable housing for the community. He was instrumental in having the nearby metal shredder removed from the neighborhood that was causing loud explosions when shredded. He served on the Ebony House board; he was an advocate for the local Boys and Girls Club. He was a member of the Alcoholic Anonymous, Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge.
Survived by his devoted wife, Iretha Goode-Lucky, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his son, Charles H. Lucky (Emma Lucky), 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. His daughter, Charlesetta Lucky-Johnson (Ron), 2 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and his daughter, Prema Rezenski and 2 grandchildren. His legacy leaves behind a host of family and friends.
