Charles “Chuck” Wesley Sheffield passed away suddenly and without expectation at Honor Health Hospital Deer Valley, on July 7th, 2021. Chuck was born in Memphis Texas on October 22nd, 1928. His parents John David Sheffield and Lela Jewel Sheffield, both originally from Oklahoma, moved from OK to TX where they started their family. Billie Jean Sheffield, (Fousel) was born in 1927 and 16 months later Chuck came along. The family moved to AZ when he was a small boy, soon after in 1938, Chuck’s Baby sister Peggy Lou Sheffield, (Dahlvang) joined the family.
Chuck spent his formative years in Bowie AZ. He had a passion for music and played in the High School Band, he enjoyed all Brass instruments. Chuck was also quite the athlete; he held the State Pole Vault Record for 7 years! He also played Basketball and was even offered a full scholarship for college at Texas Tech, He declined the scholarship and was enlisted in the ARMY right out of High School. Chuck was discharged from the Army after marrying his High School Sweetheart Barbara Lee Ansley. Chuck & Barbara had 5 children together, Charles Grant, Deborah Lee, Randy D and Cynthia Mannette. After divorcing in 1960, Chuck married Josephine Rose Eades, they were together until her death in 1988. Chuck later married Lois G Williams, until her death 1998. Chuck’s longtime love was Earline N Walden. They shared many good years together until her death in 2010.
Chuck worked hard to provide for his family, often working 3 jobs. He settled into 2 fulltime careers, working for over 30 years at the Southern Pacific Railroad until retiring. He also worked for the City of Tucson for 30 years, he retired as the Superintendent for what is now known as Tucson Environmental Services. On the rare occasions when he wasn’t working, as well as after retirement, Chuck enjoyed seeing his team the University of AZ Wildcats play, both Football and Basketball. He loved playing cards and often met his buddies for lively games of Poker. Chuck loved to travel and was in his element when enjoying nature and the great outdoors. For many years he could be found up in the mountains where he kept a trailer. Sitting on a boat and fishing brought him great joy! Having originated in Texas, Chuck was really a true Cowboy at heart! He was always seen wearing a Cowboy Hat and a Bolo Tie! We are comforted with the knowledge that he has been reunited with his family and friends who preceded him, four have since passed on, including his parents, his sons Charles and Randy, and his sister Billie Jean.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Debbie Thompson, and her husband Roland; Cindy Coss and her partner Eric; Peggy Matkin Patrick and her husband Tony; his sister Peggy Dahlvang and her husband Duane; 12 Grandchildren and their families including 11 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. His absence has left a void that is felt by us all.
