Cynthia Gay (Bryan) Dougherty, 76, was called Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 25, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. Cindy was born on December 23, 1948, to Hollis Edward Bryan and Dorothy Nadine Bryan in Beeville, Texas.
After graduating from Mary Carroll High School, Cindy married her first husband, Bob Benick, and began traveling with him for his work. Their journey eventually brought them to Page, Arizona—a place Cindy often described as where the Lord called her to Himself, and where she became a born-again Believer.
A few years later, Cindy and Bob moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they became active members of North Phoenix Baptist Church. During their time there, they served on the Evangelism Team and participated in outreach efforts with Campus Crusade for Christ, sharing their faith throughout the city.
In the late 1990s, Cindy and Bob Benick returned to Texas.
In June 2000, Cindy married Bob Dougherty. She was confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church to honor the Dougherty family’s traditions. After Bob Dougherty’s passing, Cindy returned to the roots of her Protestant faith, reading her little KJV Bible most nights.
Before moving to Arizona, Cindy spent many years living in Beeville and Corpus Christi, Texas. Throughout her life, she explored a variety of careers—from working as a Teacher’s Aide to partnering with her late husband, Bob Dougherty, as a Real Estate Agent. Regardless of the role she took on, Cindy approached every profession with dedication and commitment.
Cindy was known for her unforgettable laugh—those close to her will always remember how contagious it was, especially when she broke into a giggle. She had a keen eye for fashion and a refined taste, with a special appreciation for beautiful furniture.
For the last 26 years of her life, she was lovingly known as Grand C, or more affectionately, Fancy Grand C. She had a deep and abiding love for her grandchildren, always going above and beyond to make sure they felt cherished. Her joy in being their grandmother was evident in everything she did.
Cindy was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Dougherty, her parents, Hollis and Dorothy Bryan, her sister, Mary Bryan, and her brother Travis Bryan.
Cindy is survived by her sister, Vickie Bryan, her children Bob (Shekinah) Benick, Kevin (Lisa) Benick, Aaron (Emily) Benick, her grandchildren Sam Benick, Ryan (Alyssa) Benick, Joe Benick, Corey Benick, Graham Benick, Kristabelle Benick, Gracie Benick, Wayne Benick, Norvan Benick, Kinsley Benick; her step-granddaughter Laiken Williams, step-great-grandson Jadon Williams; her step-sons, Robert, Michael and Patrick Dougherty, step-daughter Mary Catherine Dougherty Brown along with many other step-grandchildren. She was also expecting her first great-grandchild to be due in January 2026. She is also remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
