Daniel Tucker Dang was born on May 13, 1940 in Phoenix, AZ and was the youngest of six children. He attended the Chinese Mission at Central Baptist Church as a child where he made his profession of faith, and was baptized on May 11, 1952. He was a charter member of First Chinese Baptist Church along with his mother and three sisters when it was organized on May 19, 1957. Daniel graduated from Phoenix Union High School where he played trumpet in the concert band. Drafted in 1963, he served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany working in the office where he says that he got the job because he could type 90 words per minute. After serving in the military, he worked as a keypunch operator for the Maricopa County Assessor. Very soon after, he worked for the State of Arizona, Department of Highways as a computer operator.
His hobbies included fishing (which he was introduced to at a young age by his uncle), gardening, watching sports and Jeopardy on TV, and playing computer games on his computer, tablet, and cellphone. Dan was part of a bowling league, where he met his future wife, Barbara. Dan and Barbara were married on June 30, 1973. They both had a great love for animals and had numerous dogs and cats that shared their home throughout the years. Together, they enjoyed gardening and traveling on vacations and cruises with their families. Dan enjoyed food whether it was eating or cooking and liked spending time with family, especially the times shared around food. When he cooked, he always cooked in excess, in order to share with those he loved. Dan would bring roast duck, roast pork, cha siu, and king crab legs to share with others at many of the family meals.
Dan passed away on April 1, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, Luke Sr. and Daisy Dang, brother, Luke and sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his siblings, Bertha Jones, Shirley Dang, and Isabelle Mar (Jack Mar); Lillian Dang (sister-in-law); 9 nieces and nephews, 16 grand nieces and nephews, and 7 great grand nieces and nephews.
