David is also survived by his sister, Loretta (Eutawville, SC) and two brothers, Chuck (Troy, MO) and Kenn (Lewisburg, OH). He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of over 50 years, Ginny, who passed away on February 21, 2015. David was born on February 17, 1937 in South Bend, IN to Charles and Weltha Brodess. He graduated from Trotwood-Madison High School in Trotwood, OH in 1955. Despite being an average student in high school, David became a lifelong learner. After attending Miami University (OH) for one year on a track scholarship, he finished his first undergraduate degree (Chemical Engineer) at Tri-State College (Angola, IN; now Trine University). David earned a second bachelor’s degree (Business Administration) from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. Later in life, David decided to change career directions. He decided to become a Christian Counselor, which required him to go back to school for further training. In June 2002, David earned his Master’s in Biblical Counseling, and then his Doctorate in Biblical Counseling in Nov. 2003. He held ministerial credentials with the Arizona District of the Assemblies of God until his passing. David was a committed family man. He married Virginia Ann Conner on June 10, 1960 in Otterbein, IN. David and Virginia moved shortly after their wedding to Mexico City because of a job transfer. The young couple returned to Kankakee, IL to start their family. They also lived in Garfield Heights, OH and Darien, IL before settling into what became their long-term home in Lisle, IL, where they raised their four children. David’s faith shaped his life, his values and his activities. In past years, David made several overseas church mission trips to conduct outreach services or construct/renovate church buildings. More recently, he performed numerous pastoral functions (hospital and home visitation, benevolence calls, counseling) through his home church, Phoenix First Assembly of God. David was a dedicated member of the community. He loved Lisle, Lisle schools and Lisle sports. David proudly served as a District 202 school board member. He was a longstanding member of the LSHS Sports Booster Club, and was involved in working the “Chain Gang” at football games and keeping the scorebook at basketball games. David valued education. He and Ginny successfully put their four children through college. While running a successful manufacturer’s rep business in the 1970’s, David also taught college courses at Illinois Benedictine College (Lisle, IL) and Triton College (River Grove, IL). Throughout David’s work career, he pursued an extensive collection of qualifications and certifications. Weeks before his passing, David had signed up for and started work on two self-study classes in order to continue his passion for learning. David loved to help people find opportunities to succeed in life. He was generous, a creative problem-solver and a straight shooter. David not only was a voracious reader, but he purchased countless numbers of books to give away to others. A memorial service to celebrate a life well lived is scheduled at Dream City Church – Phoenix Prayer Pavilion (13613 N. Cave Creek Rd) on March 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Because of David’s love and commitment to education, the town of Lisle and Lisle schools, a donation in his name can be made online to The Carlin Nalley Foundation Scholarship Fund or sent by check to:
