

Donald E. Scarsdale, 79, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Aug. 13, 2011. He was born in Anna, IL on March 12, 1932 to Oliver and Lena Scarsdale. Donald served in the Army in Korea. While in the service he received the Korean Service Ribbon with the Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, U.N. Service Medal as well as the National Defense Service Medal. In 1963, Don moved to Phoenix with then wife, Shirley and daughter Donna. He remarried in 1980 to his current wife Susan. Donald retired from the Post Office in 1992 after 23 years of delivering mail in Phoenix. Don was an avid racecar fan, both dirt track and asphalt. He traveled to tracks all over the U.S. and spent many Saturdays at Manzanita Speedway. He also enjoyed yard sales and swap meets. He was the Don of “Don & Jackie’s Coffee Club.” He will be missed tremendously. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Oliver and John T. Scarsdale, and his sisters, Janet and Nancy. Donald will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Susan, daughters Donna Purcell, Ann Akin, Judith Metzendorf and Debra Ronken and his son Michael Giannobile. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Trasee, Kirk, Brandon, Tamara, Ryan, Michael, Megan, Justin, Katie, Michelle, Gatlin & Zachary; 3 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Graci and Royce. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hospice of the Valley.
