Douglas MacArthur Holt completed his heavenly purpose and left us to be with the angels and our Heavenly Father on December 28, 2020. He surely flashed his vibrant, ear to ear smile as he was greeted in heaven by his late wife, Karen Van Liew Holt. He was an amazing father, loving step-father, proud brother and Papa to his many grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his first wife, Nancy, his children Bridget and Monica, and his step children William, Jennifer, Kristen, Allison, John Paul and Michael. Doug is also survived by his siblings Tom, John, Katherine and his 13 (and counting) grandchildren. He is preceded in heaven by his son Jonas, sister Thea and his brothers Ted, Bob and Frank.
Doug had unconditional love for his family, God and the USC Trojans. Their fight song is surely blaring from the heavenly rafters on repeat. Always lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it, Doug had a heart of gold and a silver tongue. He could recount a trip to the grocery store with such enthusiasm and excitement that even his millennial grandchildren would put down their phones and hang on his every word.
To say that Doug gave himself for others would be a gross understatement. This larger-than-life man was more Christ-like than many could hope to be, using his faith and heart to uplift anyone that had the pleasure of crossing his path. Showing his immense ability to shoulder more than his share of responsibility, Doug married his beautiful wife Karen in November 1993 to become the step father for a widowed family of 6 children ranging from 9 to 22-years-old. He and Karen created a family dynamic full of appreciation, positive communication, spiritual well-being and commitment that will live on for centuries to come.
Doug would be honored if you remembered him through loving your family (especially the little ones), cheering on the USC Trojans and never closing your doors when someone is in need. A proud member of the Navy Reserve, Doug may also be honored through donations to the US Naval Academy at www.usna.com/give.
Services will be held privately with the family due to venue limitations. Anyone who would like to watch via Facebook please reach out to the family for date and time. We will also have a celebration that is open to friends if interested please contact Diane Lanoue 602-214-3402
