Edith Massacci Pulice, born on March 12, 1927 in Idamay, West Virginia to Italian immigrant parents, Tony & Mary Massacci, died on August 6th, 2010. At age 18, she met the love of her life, William A. Pulice and a year later they married. Shortly thereafter, they left West Virginia for Phoenix, penniless, seeking a better life. William Pulice became employed in the construction industry, and soon became self-employed, starting Pulice Construction in 1956. William became highly successful and was regarded as one of the pioneers in Arizona’s heavy highway construction program. It is often said that behind every successful man is a successful woman, and Edith was no exception. She had a strong sense of herself and ran a tight ship at home, being a very industrious homemaker, wife, and mother of two. Though she only had a 9th grade education, Edith had a keen mind, loved to laugh, and was very compassionate. Always outgoing, she had the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. It was often said that Edie never met a “stranger”. She was a very spiritual person, and highly devoted to her Catholic faith. She volunteered at assisted care homes, was a Eucharist Minister for SS. Simon and Jude Cathedral, she was a substitute teacher and homeroom mom at SS. Simon & Jude Grade School. Always active, she was an avid tennis player at the Phoenix Country Club, and a champion bowler. She loved music and dancing, and she and her husband enjoyed many life-long friendships. Edith taught her two sons many enduring lessons about how to enjoy the beauty and simplicity of life. She is survived by her two sons William Ronald (Stacy) & Gregory (Maggie), six grandchildren Kim (David), Andrew, Mico, Remi, Rachel & Will and two great-grandchildren Lauren and Blake, a brother Joe Mason and a sister Margaret Pfefferkorn. Edith was predeceased by her loving husband, William A. Pulice, her brothers, Lou Mason and Orlando Massacci. Visitation will be held 5 pm Thursday August 12th Hansen Mortuary 8314 N 7th St and Funeral Mass 10 am Friday August 13th at Sts Simon & Jude Cathedral 6351 N 27th Ave. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Loreto Sisters Retirement Fund, St. Simon & Jude Convent, 6351 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ, 85017 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
