Betty MacCleary accomplished much in her life and was dedicated to her children and family. We wish to share our condolences to all the family and may her memory comfort you now and forever.

Dear Arizona Family,

No matter how prepared we think we are for the inevitable.........we never are.  We always think we will have one more moment to talk, hug,squeeze their hand or see them smile or laugh.  I have never been prepared and miss my parent's dearly and keep them in my "daily grateful".  What also helps me to keep them closer to my heart, is the memories I share with family and friends.

These past few days Carly, Melodie, Mac and I were reminiscing about our love for Aunt Betty.  Here are a few of our thoughts.

A Gift that Aunt Betty gave us:

As a little girl I knew my Aunt Betty as the wife of my Uncle, the mother of my cousins and I knew her from stories my mom would talk about, as a warm and generous hostess of fun family times. It wasn't until I was married with two daughters who were in 4th and 7th grades and my mom was having bi-lateral knee surgery which went awry, that I really got to know my Aunt Betty.

My mother had surgery that put her in a coma from March 29th to May 6th 1998 which turned our family upside down.  Our girls were devastated, I was beside myself with fear, confusion and my husband trying to keep us positive, safe, calm and by my side while working and going to school.  I would be at the hospital at 6 am to talk to the doctor, come home for dinner to talk to the girls and Michael, then go back to the hospital til midnight.  i was trying to find answers.  It was awful....out of the blue my Aunt Betty said she would come help us .  She was here to help with the girls, make dinner, take them to their activities, answer any calls and be at the hospital to give me a break to be with my family. I remember several times in the middle of the night I would wake up and go downstairs and just cry in frustration and out of her room Aunt Betty would come to comfort me.

In our discussions this past week our grown daughter's reminisced with much fondness how they would come home and talk about their day in school over a great dessert Aunt Betty had made, and a daily calming conversation of how strong their grandmother was and to stay positive.  She gave our family a sense of stability on the home front til Michael and I could figure how we were going to handle it all.  We never forgot how important Aunt Betty was in the process of helping my mom get better and keeping our faith.

It was a year later (1999) Aunt Betty came to us again.  We had had a rough year with moms recovery and needed a vacation but couldn't leave mom by herself, so Aunt Betty offered to come help.  During our preparation for our trip we discovered .....I had Melanoma cancer, which we couldn't tell mom as she wasn't emotionally ready.  Aunt Betty helped us, with being here with mom during our vacations and listening to our frustration with my new illness and what we had to do next.

I am sure my words do not even begin to express the love, kindness, generosity and support Aunt Betty gave us during such a horrific time.  Aunt Betty's love of family and her faith was huge for us and meant the world.

Aunt Betty will be missed by many but her new found Peace in the arms of the Lord gives us comfort as we keep her joyously alive in our fond memories.

MacCleary, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann MacCleary, 81,  A Native of Phoenix, Arizona passed into the hands of her Lord  November 7th 2014.  Betty, daughter of Levi Howard Erb Jr and Helen Burns Taylor was born on May 24,1933.  Betty passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by her family.  She is survived by her three children, Mark (Linda), Kent (Margaret), and Pamela, her five grandchildren, Nicole Price (Travis), Meghan, Morgan, Brittne and Brian, two great grandchildren Landon and Madden.  Betty was most proud and extremely excited to become "Meemaw" when she witnessed the birth of her first grandchild (Nicole) 29 years ago and was every day since.  Betty was a  very active member of the Queen Ester chapter #22 of Eastern Star, the Qadesh Temple #35 Daughters of the Nile and Sphinx Court #65 Ladies Oriental Shrine.  She was an avid bowler, card player, loved to play bingo & video poker and attended ASU football games with friends for years.  She was a true Christian in action, always giving and helping others any way she could.  Spending time with family and friends was first priority.  She left us with lots of wonderful memories and will be greatly missed. Her memory is held dear by all those that knew her. We Will Love You Always MOM, MEEMAW !!

  Graveside service will be Friday November 21,2014  following reception @ Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery  2300 W. Van Buren
