Ethel Lena King, 95, of Phoenix, Arizona, died on July 9, 2015 at her residence in the Terraces of Phoenix. Daughter of Lena Tolke Harty and Frederick Harty, she was born and raised in Hillsboro, Oregon. After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1938, she attended the Oregon Normal School in Monmouth and later graduated from the University of Utah.
She was an elementary school teacher in various locations around the country and taught in the Washington School District in Phoenix for many years. She enjoyed the travel opportunities in Europe, the Far East, the Pacific and the U.S. provided by her husband’s career in the U.S. Air Force and friendships from all over.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lonnie T. King and is survived by sons Lonnie T. King II of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and Jeffrey D. King of Phoenix; brothers Frederick Glenn Harty and Norman Harty of Hillsboro; grandchildren Kerensa King, Stephen Trevor King, and Todd Roper; and great -grandchildren Bella and Griffin Roper.
A Celebration of Life is planned on Sept. 19 in Forest Grove, Oregon.
