

GEORGIA TRUITT THOMPSON was born March 19, 1931 to Paul and Addie Davis Truitt. Georgia was born in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of Paul and Addie’s five daughters. Shortly after Georgia’s birth, Paul and Addie divorced. Addie remarried John Meyers who Georgia considered her father. Addie died when Georgia was six years old. The other children were sent to live with other relatives but Georgia stayed with John. Georgia and John, along with his parents, moved to Arizona in hope of finding better economic opportunity.
Shortly after the end of WWII, Georgia met a young man named Oscar Thompson who had just gotten home from his service overseas. They met in November, 1945 and married in January, 1946. She was fourteen and he was twenty-five. Her stepfather lied about her age to the justice of the peace. They were married until Oscar’s death in 1995. They had three children.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Oscar. Her son, Tom Thompson and her daughter Sondra Thompson Root. She is survived by her daughter, Trisha Thompson Pedersen and Trisha’s husband Roger. Grandchildren Kent Pedersen (Jeanette), Janine DeMay (Dave), Tracy Nunn and Alyce Nunn (Jon). Georgia had eight great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, especially in her later years. And she was a joy to them. She was able to see some of them several times a week.
Georgia was active in her church for over twenty years. She loved to cook for her friends. After retiring from the Roosevelt School District in Phoenix, she donated her time and talents to the church’s school kitchen. She also cooked for other functions at the church.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, February, 4th at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren, Phoenix, Az in the Serenity Chapel. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. with the service starting at noon.
