

Gerry Young, 78, formerly of Detroit MI, passed away on January 6, 2011, at her home in Tempe AZ. Gerry was born in Lake Geneva, WI to the union of Leonard Parker and Lugene Williams. Shortly after her 1950 graduation from Beloit Memorial High School, Beloit WI, she moved to Detroit and worked for AT&T (formerly Ameritech/Michigan Bell) as a construction engineer, retiring after more than 30 years of service. She received her bachelors degree, graduating cum laude, from Wayne State University, Detroit MI, in 1996. Gerry was an avid bowler and golfer, traveling to Fairfield Glade, TN annually for golfing tournaments with the Detroit Golf League. Gerry loved to travel and visited England, Korea, and many Caribbean islands. She moved to Friendship Village of Tempe in 2007. She was involved in many activities, including the Village Kat Harmonica ensemble, and was a member of the Residents Council and the Healthcare Advisory Committee. Gerry’s beautiful smile and infectious laughter will be missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Lugene Davis; father, Leonard Parker; husband, Wendell Young; and loving son, Marshall Walker. She is survived by her aunt, Christabel Johnson, Beloit WI; and cousins, Beverly Bond, Dayton OH; Philip (Kathy) Johnson, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Geraldine Hughes, Waukegan IL; Marlene Stanford, Columbus OH; and Kathy Overton, Baltimore MD. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Friendship Village of Tempe Skirm Auditorium, 2645 E. Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ.
