Helen was the 7th of nine children born to Arthur and Claira Watkins of Marion, IL. Helen grew up in rural Marion and attended Le Masters Grade School. She later completed high school and attended community college.
Helen married Edward Holloman of West Frankfurt, Illinois on May 8, 1954. She was a military wife who moved with Edward to army bases in New Mexico and Texas before their last station at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Upon Edward's 1969 retirement, she moved with her family to the Phoenix area.
Although Helen was a homemaker while her children were young, she later worked over 20 years for Bashas markets as a cashier and cake decorator. She decorated many wedding cakes in the 70s and 80s that were ordered from Bashas.
Helen will be remembered by her children as a loving mother who sacrificed much and always put her family first. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, room mother and Girl Scout Leader. Helen made homemade birthday cakes for every family member every year, with each member requesting their favorite. She was also an expert at cooking the wild game that her husband hunted.
Helen was a loyal and caring friend, always thinking of others. She was a devout Christian and attended several churches in the Phoenix area, most recently Cross in the Desert Methodist Church. She lived her final years at Madison Meadows Independent Senior Living and attended Bible study there weekly. She was a role model and inspiration to her children and family.
Helen is survived by 3 children; Janelle Liffiton, Renee (Michael) Bojorquez, and Edward (Lynne) Holloman Jr.; sister Melanie Sutton of MN; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Holloman, grandson Joshua Micheal Liffiton, and 7 siblings.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on August 16, 2025, at Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church, 12835 N. 32nd St Phoenix, AZ 85032. Helen will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with her husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the AZ chapter of NAMI.
