

Homer E. Reed, 89, of Phoenix passed peacefully on September 30, 2013. Homer was born in Slayton, Minnesota. He grew up in St. Paul, MN where he attended Humboldt High School. At age 19, Homer became one of the youngest pilots in the Navy, flying transport planes between Corpus Christi, TX and Hawaii. After his great service to our country, he started an ice cream business serving many Chicago parks with his 45 carts. He then moved to Denver where he established Homer Reed Ltd., a fine men's clothing store. Homer’s excellent business and people skills earned him American Express' "Best Customer Service" Award. Homer served on the Gates Foundation (Rubber Co. and Lear Jets) Board of Directors, where he was instrumental in the construction of the Denver Tennis Center. Recently one of the center court arenas was named in honor of Homer’s achievements. He retired in Phoenix with his loving wife, Jody. They had a wonderful life together, traveling around the world, playing tennis, golf, and enjoying friends and family. Homer touched many lives, and made lasting impressions on those who were fortunate enough to have met him. He will truly be missed. Homer leaves behind Jody, his devoted wife of 29 years; son Mark (Kim); stepson Bill Folk (Lynn); stepdaughter Mary "Zibby" Schuett (Trace); sisters Alice Cosper and Dee Nelson; brother Charles (Thea); seven grandchildren, Amy, Allison, Emily, Elizabeth, Robbie, Annie and Casey; and eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Brock, Brendon, Hailey, Cade, Rosalie and Katherine. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Rd. with a reception following at Sagewood, 4550 E. Mayo Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
