With great sadness, the family of Ivan Halvorson announces his passing on February 26, 2025. Ivan was born on October 1, 1942 in Vancouver, BC and raised near Kamloops on a ranch with his family. He’s predeceased by his parents, Frank Halvorson and Margaret Black, his aunt Betty Chapman, his nephew Clint Halvorson and his step-daughter Nancy Poon. Ivan is survived by his loving wife, Lem, who he’d been married to for 51 beautiful years, his son Tim, his son-in-law Blaine, his 3 grandchildren (Lucas, Jacob and Olivia) as well as the Poon’s and their extended families.
Ivan graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and had accumulated a wealth of knowledge in many different subjects. Before he retired, he was a manufacturer, combining his knowledge of electronics and construction to create research instruments for different medical companies. After retirement, Ivan was able to perfect his artistic abilities that he’d carried with him his whole life.
He loved creating art, as evident by his countless portraits, landscapes, caricature drawings and line and wash watercolours, and later in life even began to share his expertise on Youtube, posting tutorials on whichever medium and technique he was fascinated with at the time. Being aligned with the arts also meant Ivan was a great musician. His lively piano playing will always be remembered by those who were lucky enough to hear him play! That as well as his violin playing, on violins that he hand crafted himself, made Ivan a true renaissance man. Ivan will be deeply missed by all those who had the honour of meeting him, and will be remembered by all the beauty he joyfully shared with this world.
