James Livingston Dawson, fondly known as Jim, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love. Born on a citrus farm in Phoenix, Arizona, Jim spent most of his life in the Phoenix area, deeply connected to the community he cherished.
After graduating from college, Jim married his beloved wife, Karen. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Lisa and Chris, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Jim served his country honorably as a Naval officer, spending a few years in Hawaii during his active-duty service. Following his time in the military, Jim continued to serve others, the school business manager portion of his life to help launch one of the first "on reservation" elementary schools for the Navajo tribe, a contribution he was immensely proud of.
Most of Jim's career was spent in school business management, where he worked in several public schools throughout the Phoenix area. His commitment to education extended into his later years when he helped charter schools with budgeting and business management. Jim also served with pride as a Maricopa County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, further exemplifying his dedication to his community.
Jim retired fully in 2010, embracing his passion for travel by taking several trips across the United States in an RV with his wife and their cherished cat. His deep love for his family, his work, and his pets was evident in every aspect of his life.
A private memorial service will be held later this year, where family and friends can come together to celebrate Jim's life. Those interested in attending are encouraged to reach out to the family or leave a memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Arizona Humane Society or Arizona Game and Fish, two organizations close to Jim's heart.
